TLC Boar Stud approved to Export NORSVIN Genetics
Tests in U.S. swine production systems prove superior value of Norsvin lines known for sow productivity, feed efficiency and lean meat yield.
Norsvin USA imported 600 breeding animals from Norway to the U.S. in 2002 and established a nucleus herd in remote western South Dakota. TLC Boar Stud was approved for export of Norsvin genetics based on USDA’s strict health monitoring protocols, monthly inspection of boars by a USDA accredited veterinarian and detailed documentation of semen processing and distribution.
Established in 1994, TLC focuses on customer service and product quality.
“The most valuable information we get is feedback from customers,” says Jeff Thompson, TLC. “I always tell customers we want to know if they have problems or concerns. We can’t fix it if we don’t know it’s broken.”
In 2001, TLC was the first commercial boar stud in the U.S. to employ IVOS computer assisted semen analysis technology. Ejaculates are evaluated for morphology, motility, concentration, and volume. Substandard ejaculates are discarded.
“IVOS technology benefits TLC customers through consistent semen quality and improves on farm reproductive results,” states Lisa Frohn, General Manager for TLC.
“Efficient, lean progeny of NORSVIN sires have definitely attracted the interest of the North American pork industry,” Frohn observes, "TLC is excited to help customers boost productivity, efficiency and lean gain through use of Norsvin maternal and terminal lines.”
Norsvin, headquartered in Hamar, Norway, operates a highly effective platform for swine genetic improvement. Extensive animal testing and intensive selection are based on Norway’s high health swine population.
Norsvin USA, based in Harmony, Minnesota, supplies productive, efficient, high health genetics to pork production systems throughout North America.
